Jabiru Community Services (Jabiru) is a local, social for purpose, not-for-profit organisation with over 35 years of history in Queensland, partnering with children, young people, and families by creating safe places and relationships that connect people, resources, ideas, and communities. Their purpose is to support children, young people and families to thrive.

Jabiru Community Services identified a need to enhance their HR management and improve employee engagement. The organisation sought to optimise their HR processes and address ongoing HR management requirements.

Solution

Harrisons was engaged to provide support with HR management services, including:

Discovery Phase: Conducted a Human Resources Health Check to review organisational effectiveness and identify strategies to improve organisational structure and optimise employee engagement.
Planning Phase: Developed a one-page HR Plan based on the findings from the Discovery Phase, prioritising areas of risk and opportunity, and presented it for approval.
Implementation Phase: Implemented the HR Plan and provided operational HR support, including:
- Facilitating an Employee Engagement Survey at action planning with Leadership Team.
- Advising, coaching, and training managers in performance management and disciplinary processes.
- Monitoring employee engagement and workplace culture, and implementing strategies for improvement, including the establishment of Jabiru’s first “Culture Committee”.
- Reviewing and developing HR policies and procedures, and training managers and employees on them.
- Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, and induction activities, and coaching managers on these processes.
- Reviewing existing employment conditions and contracts to ensure compliance and competitiveness.
- Developing position descriptions with performance measures.
- Providing quarterly reporting against the HR Plan, including HR metrics.

Identifying and addressing psychosocial hazards, including rolling out Mental Health First Aid Training to employees.
